What Story Does the Label Tell?

US Wine labels tell a story – some of the story is pure fact, required by the US Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) and some is fiction told by the wine maker. What does this mean to you from a perspective of creating a great service experience or a great wine drinking experience?  Restaurant wine lists create a dramatically different experience than that of a wine shop, liquor store or even a grocery store.  In a store, you can pick a bottle up, be swayed to purchase by a cool image on the label or even a catchy name.  In a restaurant setting, however, all that is provided is a list in black and white with a few details (variety, brand, vineyard location) with little other information to go by.  Service professionals have the total advantage here!  DOMSOM’s goal is to create an even playing field for professionals and enthusiasts by sharing a few points on how to gain value from the story a wine label can tell you.  The information you learned in Modules 1, 2 and 3 will provide you the background to get the most out of the story!
